The Earths solar system of the sun and nine planets is actually situated in an outer spiral arm of the Galaxy the Milky Way.

Our Sun orbits the center of the Galaxy once every 220 million years.  So according to scientists, since the Sun was formed, it's been around the Galaxy about 20 times.

Although we go around and around in a rotory motion we also go up and down through the thickest part of the spiral arms the centre of which is known as the Galactic equator.

Whilst our Solar system goes around and around as shown above in yellow, some extra solar systems rotate over and under of the central galactic point known as the bulge.

This trip "Up and Down" while we go around and around is similar to a carousel ride with each descent from the top position to the center taking roughly 26,000 years to make.

We are due to pass through the spiral arms central position on 21st December 2012.

During this period it is expected by scientists that we shall see changes to the earth brought about by differences in the region of space we are travelling through. Some scientists predict matter particle vibratory acceleration, some predict a lot more visits from asteroids and comets.

The fact is no-one really knows for sure.

Rather than foretelling the "end of the world " and everything in it.. The Aztec Sun Stone merely suggests we are at the end of an age. When one age finishes and a new age begins.

This is similar to the Mayan Calendar system that also supports the notion that when one age passes a new one begins.

THE SUN DISK - IS IT THE AZTEC or MAYAN CALENDAR ?

The Aztec sun disk in NOT the Aztec calendar. It's name used to be Teoilhuicatlaluaztli-ollin tonamalchiotl = 'The great and venerable mechanism of the universe', but it is now called Cuauhxicalli = 'Eagle's bowl'. It's more of a mythological historical device to help the memory.

The center is the Sun god; surrounding it are the four destructions (first and hurricane and rain and flood); flanking the sun are the two astrologers, man and wife, who invented the calendar. Part of that are the four points of the year: two solstices and two equinoxes. Surrounding all that and counterclockwise are 20 signs for the days. Surrounding that are the squares with points: 5 x 10 x 4 = 200 days and the 8 big pointers make 60 + 200 = 260 days of the lunar reckoning (Metzli pohualli).

For the solar reckoning (Tonal pohualli) there are 105 left going around that band; thus 105 + 260 = 365, with 5 of them as kernals of maize representing the intercalary days at the end of the year.
In the outer band there is a fire symbol, which represents the destruction of the world by the sun every 52 years, a time for sacrifice. There are pleats that bind two 52-year cycles into an age. The outside band is formed of two downward serpents (2 xiu-coatl 'fire-serpent').

This Aztec sun disk has no counterpart disk by the Mayans, but the Mayan calendar is similar to the Aztec calendar in time periods and far better developed.

The Mayan Calendar itself provides an exact schedule for the Cosmic Plan and the unfolding of all things that come into existence. There is now ample evidence for this, as it is something that opens the age old questions of mankind.
